Write Yourself a Future.
College is confusing. We can help with that.
This isn’t school. This is a hustle. Going to college is about classes and homework. Paying for college is about paperwork and applications and deadlines and confusing systems. Whether you need help filling out the FAFSA (https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa) or writing scholarship essays, we are here to help. Let us.
Lectures are boring. Demonstrations are better.
We get it. Some things are classic for a reason. We wrote a scholarship essay book. We're on the socials, man. TikTok (@ProfessorBrandt). YouTube (SummerScribe@InkShieldInitiative). But lecturing has limits.
Our offerings are meant to deliver a unique experience. Showing students how to do something beats talking at students any day of the week. Our live offerings are exactly that. Maybe we are filling out a sample FAFSA (live) so you can work along side us on your own. Or working through a real scholarship application to editing student papers (anonymously) to a repeatable workbook for future scholarships.
Think Like a Writer
This program was founded by a real writing professor (Professor Brandt). And if he has taught us anything, it's that writing is a process. We understand systems and can help you navigate them. You avoid filling out forms because they can be overwhelming and confusing. You don't finish scholarship applications because you think you probably won't win. You write essays like it's homework because no one told you that a good story matters more than a laundry list of deeds. We know.
Writing is Rewriting
One draft won’t cut it. You can't win money for college if you don't finish the first draft (FAFSA). And you can't finish college if you don't learn how to navigate the complexities. We have been there. We took the classes. Hell, we (Professor Brandt, anyway) taught the classes. We can tell you about CLEP tests and Pass/No Pass classes and scholarships that you didn't even know existed.

Don't just take my word for it that I can help. Watch some videos. Maybe ask a question or two on the form below. If my attitude and style works for you, take a class or toss us some cash. I know that rhymed. I have a rash?

Finishing Moves: FAFSA
This is a live demonstration of the FAFSA process. Both the student and the parent will provide an email so that we can send them the required documentation they will need during this event. This gives both parent and student a chance to ask questions, work through the form with us, and ensures both halves (students and parents have to fill out information) are done all at once. No stress. No fighting. No crying. OK, some but I get emotional when families work together. This class is for those who feel they don't have time or motivation to do the job on their own. We can do it with you.

Don't worry if you don't see a date and time that works for you. We hold these events (about) twice a month with exceptions for holidays or when Professor Brandt is tired. Usually just the holiday thing, but if we sell enough of these things maybe we can tire him out.

Scholarship Scrimmage
The 2 day live intensive (Two 2 hour sessions) covers a scholarship application from start to finish.
-
We walk you through an actual application, cover what you need in terms of letters or transcripts, and give you time as we demonstrate to fill the form out yourself.
-
Then we focus on the essay. You submit a draft to us prior to the start of the class and we show your paper anonymously as we work through improvements.
-
Students resubmit the paper before day 2, at which point we walk through a few more essays.
-
You leave with a workbook that allows you to repeat our process. And we return feedback on your final draft within a week.
Some programs edit your paper. Some explain how to apply. We pick an application (we are not connected to these scholarships we choose) and walk students through entirely.

Nonprofit Mission
SummerScribe is connected to our nonprofit InkShield Initiative. Adults have been left behind in the reading and writing game. SummerScribe was a way to continue that mission to help adults become better writers and readers while funding a bigger mission. But you could cut out the middle man. You can donate some cash, give someone a seat in one of these programs, and then it is like you are donating twice. Alright, it isn't. But you can still donate twice. Anyway, help us out if you can.
Our Founder/Instructor
I’m Professor Brandt. I’m an English professor, scholarship coach, and literacy nerd who wears silly ties and fedoras. That’s because I have a simple philosophy.
I don't take myself seriously. I take writing seriously.
And when you're begging for money, standing out matters. I’ve helped students earn thousands by ditching formulas and leaning into real story structure and strategy. No 5-paragraph nonsense here.
We lead with heart and hope.
If you’re burned out, broke, or tired of playing the game wrong, you have come to the right place.

4.9 out of 5 on RateMyProfessors
Real students. Real results. Consistently rated as one of the most helpful and engaging instructors.
Years of experience helping students win real money
Not theory. Strategy that works. I’ve helped students earn thousands through essays that actually sound like them.
This is part of a bigger mission
Yes, this is a paid program. But every dollar goes back into our nonprofit focused on adult literacy and educational access.
This isn’t just a job. It’s the work I care about most.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this for?
High school and college students who are applying for scholarships and want to actually win them. If you've got a story and a deadline, you're in the right place.
What does it cost?
The book is free. That is available above. We offer online videos. We occasionally host free scholarship crash courses. But for those who need it the live editing intensive is $500. The live intensive, however, has numerous advantages over the other options.
Do I have to show up if I sign up for the live intensive?
Yes. The class works because students watch the editing process and participate when needed. Questions are also allowed during every session.
What if I can’t finish the essay during the class?
Feedback is provided after the class has concluded. Students have 48 hours from the last session to provide us with a copy of their paper. We return said paper within a week. You can always contact us. This is our policy, but exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis.
Is this just for English majors or strong writers?
Not even close. This is for anyone and everyone who wants to tell their story better. We teach strategy, not perfection.
Is this really a nonprofit?
Sort of. It is connected to our nonprofit organization, InkShield Initiative, a nonprofit focused on adult literacy and educational access. As such we offer free options. The live intensive, however, is a paid product we use as a funding source. It is not tax-deductible. But all proceeds go to InkShield Initiative. You're helping yourself and someone else at the same time.
What’s the refund policy?
You must cancel one hour before the first online class to receive a full refund. If you fail to meet us live, we do not promise refunds, but are willing to accommodate on a case-by-case basis.
